This is the sixth event in the CVHI international conference series on Assistive Technologies and Rehabilitation Engineering supported by the European Commission.  The previous events took place in August 2001 in Castelvecchio-Pascoli, Italy; August 2002, July 2004 and August 2007 in Grenada, Spain and  July 2006 in Kufstein, Autria.

The current event will take place in Wroclaw, Poland.  It consists of a one day Tutorial Workshop on 20 April 2009 followed by a three day conference on 21 - 23 April 2009

One of the distinctive aspects of this conference is the active involvement of young researchers, supported by conference bursaries.  

Bursary for Young and Disabled Researchers

The European Commission support will fund a number of bursaries for Young and Disabled Researchers to attend the conference in Poland.  Most of the bursaries will be full bursaries, but a smaller number of partial bursaries will also be available.

The Full Bursary will consist of the following:

·         Conference and Tutorial Workshop Fee.

·         Conference Accommodation and Board: The accommodation costs for five nights in the Conference Hotel will be funded. This will be for the nights of 19 – 23 April to allow full attendance at the Tutorial Workshop day and the Conference. One extra night may be funded in some circumstances, for instance if required to allow cheap travel to be arranged. 

·         Travel  The cheapest fare for air or rail (or coach) travel by a reasonable route  will be funded. 

·         Travel and subsistence costs for a companion if required by disabled applicants.  

Conditions for Applicant

Priority will be given to supporting young researchers who are nationals of and are active in a Member or Associated State of the European Union and less than 35 years of age.  Account will be taken of career breaks and therefore (women) applicants who do not meet this requirement, but have taken one or more career breaks are also encouraged to apply.  For this event, being active means pursuing assistive technology or rehabilitation engineering research through postgraduate study, or employment at a recognised Research Institute or Higher Education institution or NGO.  Young researchers who have been working in a Member or Associated State for at least four years will be given the same priority as nationals.  Other young researchers are also encouraged to apply, but will be given less priority.

A number of bursaries will also be made available to disabled applicants who do not meet the age requirements.
