Availability beyond the University of Glasgow

Those packages marked above by a star * are available to other institutions on a completed or trial basis.

As an institutional TLTP project rather than a subject software consortium, TILT was not contracted to provide learning packages at cost to other UK HEIs. However, when they became available some of these packages have been made available for sale to UK HE establishments for the cost of the distribution media, postage and handling (or free ftp downloading).

To order copies of software and the full versions of TILT reports contact whoever is specified in the linked pages above, or:

warning

Any disk on which software is delivered has been checked to ensure it is free from viruses, but it is not guaranteed to be virus-free. It has also been checked for compatibility with most types of Macs or PCs (whichever is appropriate), but TLTP and the University of Glasgow cannot be held responsible for any incompatibility with your computer, system software, programs and data, and any problems that may result from such incompatibilities. Before installing any new software, you should always back up your hard disk.

disclaimer & limitation of remedies or damages

Great effort has gone into making the packages as solid and error-free as possible. However, you should not assume that a package will suit your needs or work without errors. A package is provided "as is" without any warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including without limitation any warranty with respect to its merchantability or its fitness for any particular purpose. The entire risk as to the quality and performance of a package is with you. Should a package prove defective, you (and not the product's authors) assume the entire cost of all necessary servicing, repair or correction. No one warrants that the functions in a package will meet your requirements or that the operation of a package will be uninterrupted or error free, or that defects in a package will be corrected. In no event will anyone be liable

  1. to you for any incidental, consequential, or indirect damages (including damages for loss of business profits, business interruption, loss of business information, and the like) arising out of the use of or inability to use a package, even if the program's authors has been advised of the possibility of such damages, or
  2. for any claim by any other party.

Should you have any reason to believe a delivered disk is faulty, put it in a jiffy bag and return it to the above address. If the error is a duplication error (ie, attributable to TILT), a replacement disk will be returned to you.

Year 2000 - TILT software packages were n ot tested for Y2K problems, or designed to overcome them, so cannot be guaranteed, but no problems were expected or were reported because the packages do not use dates or calculations based on them. We also believed that even if we had used dates, the Macintosh software would not display Y2K problems.

Choice of authoring software

The decision was taken at the outset of the TILT project that the departments involved and the developers would be able to select the authoring software which best served their needs.
Our decision was reached for the following reasons:

Consequently, within TILT, developers worked with a wide variety of authoring software, including Authorware for the Macintosh and for the PC, Hypersense for the NeXT, ToolBook, Hypercard, Macromind Director, and Guide, and programming languages such as C++ and Visual Basic. Consequently in the three years of TILT the staff have developed a considerable experience both in the merits of different authoring software and in the wider field of CAL development. They are happy to share their knowledge and skills, their successes and failures.
