The MINT Programme

Molecular Interconnect for NanoTechnology (MINT) is a collaborative project that is funded to study interconnecting nanostructures and templates made using biological macromolecules such as RNA and DNA. The project is particularly concerned with the use of RNA which is known to have a greater diversity in its tertiary structure than DNA.

The MINT Partners

The project team has five partners providing a comprehensive skill set.

University of Glasgow
United Kingdom

The Nanoelectronics Research Centre at the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering is working on nano-electrode structures made using top-town nanolithographic methods, surface functionalisation, molecular immobilisation to fixed sites on substrates, and electrical measurement.

CNRS Strasbourg and Universite Louis Pasteur
France

The Centre National de la Recherche Scientific in Strasbourg and the Universite Lousis Pasteur are designing and making synthetic oligonucleotides that are specified for their physical and self-assembly characteristics.

University of Limerick
Ireland

The Department of Chemistry and Envirnomental Science is working on pattern transfer from self-assembled structures into polymer and metal films. The research involves the development of an array of electrochemical techniques.

University of Liverpool
United Kingdom

The Centre for Nanoscale Science at the Department of Chemistry is focusing on functionalisation of oligomers using techniques such as the attachment of nanoparticles to the molecular backbone and metallation. They also undertake electrochemical studies using STM techniques.
